On Friday night in Portland, Ore., alt-rock heroines Sleater-Kinney performed together for the first time since 2006, joining Pearl Jam on stage at the city’s Moda Center for a cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World.” Sleater-Kinney — comprised of Corin Tucker, Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss — has played with Pearl Jam numerous times over the last decade, and frequently appeared onstage with the band during Pearl Jam’s 2005 tour.
Do you think there is a chance that the ending of "Somedays Are Better Than Others" hints at Katrina and Eli getting together ?
I think that it is certainly open to interpretation, but in my opinion there weren’t any hints about it. Personally, I could see them getting together way down the line but after forming a solid friendship and figuring themselves out. But who knows—-the story was left the way it was so that we could speculate about these kinds of things!
"I’m currently working on some music, but not with Wild Flag. It’s not like a secret project but it’s with people I’ve played music with before, I’ll say that." What do you guess that is? or more so, WHO do you think that is?
Many signs over the past 1-2 years have pointed to a Sleater-Kinney reunion happening soon (possibly this year), not to mention with the success of Portlandia/Wild Flag at the moment there has been great revival and growth in the S-K fanbase. So, she may be talking about Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss. Just speculation, but she definitely was choosing her words VERY carefully during this part of the interview.
Hey sorry, I've got another question hahaha Do you know what does the '27' stand for?
I don’t know if anybody knows for certain, but I think that Carrie was 27 when she got it and I have heard that it’s a reference to some of the people she’s looked up to in rock music who were part of the ‘27 club,’ a group of musicians who died at the age of 27 (Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, etc.).
How many tattoos does Carrie have? Are there pics of them? x
Carrie has a total of 3 tattoos that we as a fanbase know about, though I think she may have gotten one removed. She has a left lower stomach tattoo of her cat Hector who has passed, a “Dig Me Out” tattoo on her right ribcage, and a (possibly removed) number “27” on the back of her right upper arm. It’s visible in some 1st season episodes of Portlandia but in some 2nd season episodes and later Wild Flag appearances, it’s been either removed or covered up.
ok my carrie situation is out of control i was up until 5:30 watching wild flag + sleater kinney performances and my phone/computer/ipod’s backgrounds are all carrie and now i’m having a portlandia marathon again
I love you and I love your music, I have since high school. But what the actual fuck are you singing about? I mean you sing it with such conviction that it must be about *something.* All I know is there’s horses and bees and goblins, and numbers…it’s like you paint surrealist paintings but with words.
You’re so rad.
best text post ever. glad i’m not the only one confused and befuddled by the whimsical world of mary.
…there’s been talk of a possible Sleater-Kinney reunion in 2013 – if everyone’s crazy schedules align.
They better not be playing with my fragile heart when they say this. Please God. Please!
It’s a common misconception with fans of her old trio Sleater-Kinney, says Corin Tucker, that just because they aren’t currently recording together, she and co-founder Carrie Brownstein are at odds. “I think people make assumptions about Sleater-Kinney or our friendship that aren’t really based in reality – the band is just on hiatus, and we use that word in the way it’s meant, you know?” says the Portland native, who just issued her second solo album, “Kill My Blues,” as The Corin Tucker Band. Although Brownstein is equally busy with her group Wild Flag and her sketch comedy show “Portlandia,” there’s been talk of a possible Sleater-Kinney reunion in 2013 – if everyone’s crazy schedules align.
